The Sixmilebridge massacre (1852)

Post by Paddy Casey » Wed Apr 30, 2008 9:47 pm

The Freeman's Journal and Daily Commercial Advertiser (Dublin, Ireland), Saturday, July 24, 1852 reports a massacre at Sixmilebridge during an election event. It seems that a regiment of soldiers in the village fired on a group of civilians. The dead included Thomas Ryan of Castlecrine, not married; James Frawley of New Park, not married; James Casey of Tradree, not married; Michael Coleman of Tradree, not married; Jeremiah Frawley of Newmarket, not married; John Rielly of Bunratty, married with a large family.
