New Post Card from 1st Oct 1870

Clare Journal, Thurs 15 Sep 1870:
The New Post Card. From the 1st day of October the new post card will come into force – one halfpenny postage. It is a very neat and nicely-designed missive, with an impressed Queen’s head, and will no doubt contribute greatly to the public convenience.

Clare Journal, Mon 28 November:
Our attention has been called to the disreputable practice to which the postal cards are applied by some young scamps of this town in sending them to young females couched in the most filthy language. We feel confident that if the attention of the postal [following three words illegible] to this matter that our respected Postmaster in Ennis would suppress their delivery, thereby putting a stop to such infamous productions.

Clare Freeman, Sat 10 Feb 1877:
Arrangements are being made for the issue of new halfpenny postal cards on considerably encreased dimensions, in place of the present wretchedly small one.
