Hi all,
This is my Grandfather, James Ronan (Roughan on Civil Birth Reg.) b.1889 in Limerick.
On the 1911 census James lived with his Maternal Grandmother at Killonan, Limerick and in 1924 he is in Quinn, marrying my Grandmother (James family is originally thought to be from Clare), I assume this photo was taken in between those dates and I am told James fought against the British.
Any help is appreciated,
thankyou,
Josie

Re: Please help recognise this uniform/date of photo
Hi Len,
thanks for your response and the link. I have searched these records and it seems unlikely that they refer to my James, maybe a relation though...I'm hoping that somebody has a similar photo to help identify when this one may have been taken, I know very little of this period of James's life. The old photo's are so precious....
Best wishes,
Josie

The Post Office has a history site at https://www.anpost.ie/AnPost/History+and+Heritage/Home/ Sounds as if much of their archive material was destroyed but they might be worth contacting. Best by phone call in my experience.mick o wrote:may be long shot
