Bartholomew Corry/Curry
Looking for marriage information on gggfather Bartholomew Corry/Curry born around 1811. His parents were Charles Corry and Ellen Boyle.
Bart held some land at Kilfearagh, lived in Albert St. Kilkee in 1842 and was a Poor Law Guardian in 1844 at Kilrush. He was a widower when he married my gggmother in 1856. any tips or help very welcome.

A Batt Corry/Sally Hickey from Moyarta had a daughter Elon baptised in Kilrush on 23 Nov 1843. Here is the link to the parish registers

That "Elon" would probably be Ellen. According to the traditional Irish rules for naming children the 2nd daughter was usually named after the father's mother so if that rule was applied at the baptism of this child it might suggest that "Elon" was a second daughter. Not cast-iron evidence, of course, but....

I guess at this time in history it would not be unusual if a wife and 2 children died of disease linked to famine? Bartholomew emigrated by himself - as a widower- around 1856.

Re: Bartholomew Corry/Curry
Right. The chances of dying prematurely of hunger or any one of a number of diseases (e.g. cholera) were very high at that time. Two books among the many on the subject are
- Sable Wings over the Land by Ciarán Ó Murchada (Clasp Press, 1998)
and
- A Starving People - Life and Death in West Clare 1845-1851 by Ignatius Murphy (Irish Academic Press, 1996).
