In 1946 London writer Juliet Ashton, tired of covering the war and its aftermath, is struggling to find a subject for her next book when she receives a letter from Guernsey farmer Dawsey Adams who happens to possess a book that Julia once owned. As well as sharing Juliet’s love of Charles Lamb, he is a member of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. The oddly named book club was initially established as an excuse to explain to German occupiers why they were breaking curfew. Gradually Juliet strikes up a correspondence with Dawsey and the other members and discovers that the society is every bit as extraordinary as its name. Written as a series of letters, this is a charming and poignant novel and a testament to the power of books, friendship and love.
