Catherine Noonan

Post by martin » Fri Dec 04, 2009 3:31 pm

I'm hoping someone can help.
I.m researching my GGgrandmother CATHERINE NOONAN.The first information I have on her is in January 1857.When she married my to be GGgrandfather DANIEL MARTIN (Co.Kerry) in Fremantle,Western Australia in a Catholic Church. His wife died in 1856 leaving him with 2 or 3 little girls.
On their marriage cert. CATHERINE had down that she was from Co.Clare and that her father's name was JOHN and he was a farmer.
On her death cert.July 1908.It states that she was 29 when she was married that makes her born 1828 but it also states that she died at 76yrs old so she could be born 1832.
I found a person researching a Catherine Noonan born 1834 in Bodyke but it is not my Catherine.
Hoping I can get some information on CATHERINE NOONAN

Have you already been through the John Noonans in the Griffiths Valuation (ca. 1855) at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... fithn2.htm and the John Noonans in the Tithe Applotments at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... oNurse.htm ? to get an idea as to which parish baptism records might be most likely to list her name ?

Hello - As per Paddy Casey's suggestion - I looked at Griffith Vals. for John Noonon - and perhaps John Noonan at Killard which is at Doonbeg - 7 miles from Kilrush/Kilkee in West Clare might be relevant. The other John Noonans are in the Tulla/Scarriff area - and you say that the Catherine Noonan of Bodyke is not your relation.
Unfort. church records for the Parish of Killard are not available for the years in question. However to see details of the parish log on to http://www.clarelibrary.ie and open Genealogy. Go to Research Material at bottom right of page and open 'PARISH INDEX' and select Killard - this will give you lots of info on area. The area in question is 3 miles from Doonbeg - on the Atlantic ocean and on the southern side of Doonbeg Bay/River. There is a very old cemetery there and perhaps there might be Noonan graves there.
Census of 1901 has 'Thomas Noonan, Shop Assistant' - he could be a nephew of Catherine's.
