Post by ciaran crossey » Thu Aug 23, 2007 12:48 pm

Hi folks,
My area of interest is an attempt to get information on the 1000 men Irish men who took part in the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Check out
http://www.geocities.com/irelandscw/

To biz.
The Clare people involved in this war included:
On the Republican side
Michael Russell, Ennis
Brendan Moroney, Ennis

On the pro-Franco side, led General Eoin O'Duffy
John Crowe, Millford;
Andrew Crowley, Breagha, Kilrush;
Gerard Hobbins, Clondara, Tulla (brother of TH);
Thomas Hobbins, Clondara, Tulla;
Patrick Killeen, Ballyhinch, Whitegate;
Sean MacNamara, Ennis;
J McCarthy, Fermoyle, Ballyvaughan;
Vincent McHugh, Ennis (1916-1979);
Sean McNamee, Clare?;
Martin O'Toole, Ennis;
Tom Prior, Clare;
Patrick Skehan, Bradford;
Thomas Troy, Tulla; (died in Spain of illness, 1937)
P Woods, Rosfreake

Basically, I'm asking if anyone can provice information on any of these men, or if you know of others from the county who went to Spain.

A local man, Peadar McNamara, has written some material on the Claremen and he's let me make it available on the site at
