Guilfoyle/Kilfoyle becomes Powell

Post by Sduddy » Sat Oct 22, 2022 10:06 am

On the surname, Powell, Edward MacLysaght says “This Welsh name (Ap Howell), found in small numbers in all the provinces, is also an occasional synonym of Guilfoyle” (Surnames of Ireland (sixth edition)).
The priest, who, in 1938, transcribed the Tulla parish marriages of 1846-1862 and who added an index at the end, noted this in the left hand margin of page 97 (online): https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls ... 0/mode/1up
