Digitizied Drouin Collection material

Post by smcarberry » Mon Aug 20, 2007 11:21 pm

The American-Canadian Genealogical Society, located in New Hampshire,
now has a digitized version of the Drouin Collection, a microfilm collection of parish registers for the Province of Quebec, some from the Province of Ontario, the Maritimes, Acadia, some notarial acts and hundreds of other documents, which were transferred onto about 2,400 reels of microfilm

"There are several societies in Canada and in the United States who have the microfilms available to their members, including the first society to own the films in the United States, the American-French Genealogical Society in Woonsocket, RI. The New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston was the first to buy a copy of these 2400 reels of microfilm from AFGS, quickly followed by the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, IN...We now offer these images to anyone wishing to access them. The price for accessing the images can be as low as $1 per hour when coupons are bought in quantity. Coupons do not have an expiration date."

"The Drouin 'Collectors' will retrieve the digitized images for those members and non-members who cannot come to our library but would like to have these primary records. They will collect the images, burn them onto a CD and mail them...This is not a research service and the Drouin Assistants or Collectors cannot spend time doing your research. Your research must be done and you must send the name, date and place of the ancestors whose records you require."

Another remote retrieval method:

"The Research Department will retrieve the digitized images for those members and non-members who cannot come to our library but would like to have these primary records. They will collect the images, burn them onto a CD and mail them...You provide the information required - name, date [at least month and year], place...Non-members pay $5 per image for up to 10 images or $3 per image if more than 10 images are requested."
