Clare Journal, Mon 7 Jan 1856: Marriages. At Lee, Kent, by the Rev. F. W., Molony, brother of the bride, Arthur Vandeleur, Esq., of Ralahine, co. Clare, Captain Royal Artillery, to Mary, eldest daugher of J. Molony, Esq., of Kiltannon, D.L., co. Clare.
News Item: Rejoicings at Kiltannon. On Thursday last the property of J. Molony, Esq., of Kiltannon, presented a gratifying spectacle of kind-hearted enthusiasm and rejoicing in consequence of the marriage of that gentleman’s daughter to Captain Vandeleur, R.A., at Lee Kent. The tenantry erected enormous piles of combustibles over the estate, and when evening fell, they cast their effulgence over the surrounding country like the beacons of old – telling, however, not of raids or forays, but of a generous sympathetic feeling of the tenants to their landlord and friend. It would greatly have distressed the transatlantic speculators in Ireland’s dis-union to have heard the hearty cheers for Mr. Molony, for the bride and bridegroom, given by the jovial peasantry, at the fires by the hill side, and who partook of the “dhrop” and refreshments which a benevolent consideration had provided for their use and enjoyment, temperately and “within the limits of becoming mirth.” The immediate neighbourhood of the demesne, which is farmed by Mr. Robb, was particularly bright, that gentleman, not only having three magnificent bonfires in full blaze, but had invited a large party of tenantry and others to partake of a bountiful assortment of the good things of this life within doors. The hospitality of the worthy host, who was in the chair, was amply responded by the guests, who kept “the table in a roar” until a late hour in the morning. We greatly regret that our space forbids us dilating on the excellent speeches, and still more excellent songs, given in the course of the evening; but we may mention the hearty cheers which greeted the toast of “long life, health and happiness of the bride and bridegroom, “ the health of their worthy landlord, and the other members of the family.
