"Clare Journal, Mon 22 Oct 1860: Marriages. In Harlem, United States, on the 2nd of Oct., at the residence of Thomas P. Gaynor, Esq..."

Explaining the locality reference: Harlem is a large district or neighborhood on the upper West Side of Manhattan, the original borough of New York City. The name reflects the island's early settlement by the Dutch, who have their own Harlem locality. To see a street solidly within Harlem, which likely has no official boundaries, view 125th Street. Although known throughout the 20th century for the Black community's residences and businesses there, virtually a self-contained world of its own, in the 1800s it was an area into which immigrants flooded, including the Irish. Since the island narrows considerably that far north, the neighborhood stretches over to the East River. This explanation is informal, my understanding of the place name.
