Clare Journal, Mon 17 Jun 1867:
A Fortunate Adventurer. We find the following in the Clare intelligence of the “Limerick Chronicle:” – “Some time ago a telegram was received in this town, directed to a Mrs Burke, Cooraclare, from Calcutta, the cost of which was £18, but which had been prepaid. Subsequently the Rev Mr Quinlivan, P P, Cooraclare, received a letter from a man named Burke, from India, stating that he had sent a telegram to his mother to announce that he had forwarded her £1,000. The cheque has come to hand, but the poor woman is in America, to which country the Rev Mr Quinlivan has kindly dispatched letters after her."
