Post by Sduddy » Sat Jun 19, 2021 10:12 am

Clare Journal, Thur 2 Jan 1862: Deaths. On the 30th instant, at his residence, Lisduff Cottage, in this county, Michael Foley, Esq., deservedly regretted by all who knew him.

Clare Journal, Mon 6 Jan 1862: Sudden Death of Terence Healy, Esq., of Manus House. Many of our readers are aware that on Friday last this lamented gentleman left his residence at Manus in perfect health, and had not proceeded many yards from his gate, when, attacked by a sudden feeling of illness, he returned to his house where he expired in a few minutes. It seldom happens that nay gentleman is placed in so many different positions as were filled by Mr. Healy, and the good fortune with which he was enabled to secure the universal esteem and respect prove him to have been gifted with talent and acquirements of no ordinary character.
It is well known that he was for several years past amongst the foremost to introduce an improved system of agriculture into this part of the country; and his taste and judgement in the selection and breeding of stock were admitted by every person competent to form an opinion; indeed, his tillage, his stock, and his general mode of managing his extensive farming operations attracted general notice and admiration. […] His sudden death, at the comparatively early age of 38, is a source of inexpressible grief to his bereaved widow and young family. [more]

Clare Journal, Mon 13 Jan 1862: Death of Mrs. Kean.
It is with regret that we have to publish today, the death of Mrs. Eliza Kean, widow of the late Robert Kean, Esq., of Hermitage, near this town, which took place on Thursday last, at her residence, Lower Pembroke-street, Dublin. The promise of the perfect and the upright was hers, as she was one “who feared God, and eschewed evil.” She came to her grave in a ripe old age, like as a “shock of corn cometh in his season.”
Death of Miss Sophia Cullinan. The grim tyrant – Death – has again invaded our town. His conquests during the past few weeks have seemingly been insufficient to satisfy his insatiable appetite; and once more he comes in his sable majesty to number with other departed spirits one dear and beloved. In the morning of her life, and in the bloom of beauty, and in the vigour of womanhood, Miss Sophia Cullinan, daughter of our much respected townsman, M. Cullinan, Esq., Solicitor, has been taken prematurely from our midst. [more].

On the 19th instant, at Derreen, in this county, after a brief illness, and receiving the holy rights of the Catholic Religion, to which he was through life devotedly attached, Joseph Lysaght, Esq., in the 100th year of his age, having been born in 1762. The deceased gentleman belonged to one of the principal branches of this ancient septal name, and was highly and extensively connected with very many of the leading families of this and neighbouring counties. He enjoyed all through his long life admirable health; and was seldom or ever known until his final illness to be indisposed or confined to his room by sickness. All that is mortal now of this worthy gentleman rests with his ancestors in the family mausoleum, in the Cathedral of Kilfenora, the chief burial place of this old race, being thus united in death as the various branches were known and admired to have been in life.
On the 19th instant, at Annagh, in this county, after a short illness, aged 56, Mr. Denis Slattery, P.L.G., and Vice-Chairman of the Scariff Union. Than deceased, few men of his class could be more universally esteemed. In private, he was obliging and benevolent; in public, patriotic, intelligent and uncompromising, and his death is a source of deep regret to all who knew him.

Stacpoole – which melancholy event occurred on Friday morning, at Ballyalla House, after a severe and trying illness. It is hardly twelve months since we were called upon to record the death of a late member of this esteemed family; and now that a like painful duty devolves upon us we feel the sorrow to be the more acute when we have to give publicity to the decease of a lady who had filled the void that was made in the family circle of her sister’s death, and whose affectionate disposition, amiable character, and benevolent feelings had endeared her, in an unusual manner, to her afflicted friends [more in that vein].
