Clare Journal, Thur 16 Mar 1854:
Quin. Outrage – On Sunday evening as two of the “navies” employed on the Railway works at Castlefergus were returning from Quin, they were waylaid and beaten by a party of country people, against some of whom informations have been taken. The navies being strangers from Kilkenny were supposed to have injured the vested rights of the Clare labourers in the works, is conjectured to have been the primary cause of the outrage.
