Clare Freeman, Wed 18 Feb 1880:
The beautifully carved altar of St Marys Church in Inishcaltra, or Holy Island, in Lough Derg, which was removed from that island about 150 years ago and which had been for several years a derelict in the old chapel yard of Whitegate, was reinstated a few days ago in the now restored church of St. Mary’s. About twenty men in boats accompanied by the Rev H Mockler, C C, Whitegate, and the Rev M J Kenny, P P, Scariff, assisted in the restoration.
