Naturalizations of Clare-born in Erie Co. PA

A recent trip to the Allen County Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana, resulted in the below list of Clare men whose naturalization information is contained in Erie County, Pennsylvania Naturalizations, 1825 – 1906, by the Erie Society for Genealogical Research, published 1983.

By the way, the Carberrys in that county appear to be from County Wexford; one of them married a Lehan, and a Lehan of the same family married a McMahon of Clare. Also, Erie County is where my gggrandmother Catherine Marson's older brother Matthias (b. 1805 Luxembourg) settled.

"Intention" in the below listing refers to the declaration of intention which could be filed after two years of residence in the U.S. "Certificate" refers to the final step of naturalization, in which the applicant has filed a petition, has taken an oath of citizenship, and has been granted a document evidencing his new citizenship. "Sponsor" is more typically called a witness, a local resident who attests to the applicant's length of residence in the county.
