NLI's new search engine for its collection, plus others

Post by smcarberry » Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:19 pm

The National Library in Dublin, which now has much or all of the prior Genealogical Office's materials, has outdone itself in
providing access to its collection with a new-improved online search engine. Search results show other repositories' collections having the desired material. Results are now sorted in convenient ways in order to narrow search results quickly or shift the focus of the search to another angle on the topic. I am showing below a smattering of the search returns for Co. Clare
(over a thousand individual entries).

Note that there is a posting in the Rootsweb Clare mailing list made several years ago, which provides the names of Hugh Dillon Massey's tenants in Doonass.

For those wishing to reduce time spent in the Registry of Deeds (where there is a fee for each day's use), the filmed version of the land indexes available in NLI is invaluable.
