Looks like fake news 1918 & 1683

A small-town newspaper in Oregon (USA) printed a story about potatoes in 1918, stating outright that Co. Clare was the first site of potato planting in Europe. The cited source seems to be an English organization's findings in 1683. What undercuts this account is the fact that the only Myrtle Grove (per the Landed Estates databases, NUI Galway) was in Cork, and it was a manor with which Sir Walter Raleigh was associated. On the other hand, the Blake aristocratic family was centered mainly in Galway, as shown in the NUI Landed Estates database and documents transcribed & online in the Registry of Deeds database (Nick Reddan's site.
