Weddings of Clare-born reported in NYC newspaper

Post by smcarberry » Wed Dec 23, 2020 1:33 pm

I have become aware of a search phrase that results in reports of such weddings in a specific NYC newspaper, The Irish American Advocate. This 20th century publication did a lot of linking Irish residents to their original counties while reporting all types of events, even sailings back to Ireland. For weddings, the exact former residence often was listed, as well as noting then-current Irish residents attending a wedding. Exact content of each article varied a bit but often there was a long list of attendees as well. Digitized editions of this newspaper appear variously on the Internet, but a free source for (I believe) its entire run in the 1900s can be found at https://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html At this site, you must enable Flash Player to run on your computer and then input the phrase "Clare wedding" in the search box while using the setting "exact phrase." Out of the long result list, view only the articles appearing in the Advocate, not the other newspapers which likely were reporting the wedding of someone surnamed Clare. I culled several, summarized below.
