Triplet births in the 18th century

Post by smcarberry » Wed Dec 09, 2020 7:21 pm

Not yet able to find a news account to fit the previous category of births in the 19th century, I have to create a new category for the 18th century. Some people are just hardy, although note that these news items don't state that the involved mothers survived. I am not aware of where Foshan is but it does not appear in IreAtlas for Monaghan, thus these two occasion seem to be not one and the same, just off by a few years. The August item was repeated in more than one newspaper of the time. Odd that both news items appear in 1887, but then odd it is that all 6 babies thrived. Chalk this up to there is an exception to every rule.

Hi Sharon,
The explosion of Mr. Reid puts the birth of the triplets into the halfpenny place.

Maybe. The cited newspaper did exist. Per Wikipedia: "The Pennsylvania Packet, or the General Advertiser was an American newspaper founded in 1771 that, in 1784, became the first successful daily newspaper published in the United States." Newspapers.com has a run of it, and I have seen an online reference to it having a 1773 edition in its online database. Any Forum member with a subscription to look for the 1784 article ?
