Naming pattern

I know about the naming patterns for Irish families,so what is the likelihood that a man would have over about 12 grandsons,that I'm aware of,and not one has his name? I'm referencing my 3rd great grandfather,Timothy Carrigg. There are several repeated given names,but no Timothy. Makes me wonder if his given name wasn't something else and they just called him Timothy?
