For the last few weeks, all searches on this forum have returned:
"Information
The specified search backend doesn’t exist."
Can the search backend be resurrected?

Re: Attn. Clare Admin: search is broken
As a halfway usable workaround until this is fixed (it's Saturday evening) one can search the forum with Google by using the Site: parameter, e.g. if looking for the keyword "workhouse"type
site:http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewforum.php workhouse
This will throw up one result with the added Google note "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 1 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included".
At this point don't sigh and bang your forehead on the desk. Click on "...you can repeat the search with the omitted results included". This will force the listing of the other results relating to, in this example, 'workhouse'. However, when you click on one of those hits it will simply take you to the relevant page in the forum rather that the posting itself. So to save your having to read down the page to find your workhouse entry....
...hit keys "Ctrl-F" (in Windows, don't know the Linux or Mac equivalents) and enter the keyword you are looking for. For example, in the Google hitlist there is a 'workhouse' entry from Paddy Waldron about Eliza Eagar. Hit Ctrl-F and Eliza and that will highlight Paddy's posting on the page in question.
It's a bit roundabout but works fine when you get used to it.
