Dysart/Desart House, Kilrush

Post by Jim » Tue Apr 09, 2019 9:31 pm

Does anyone have any info on Dysart/Desart House in the Kilrush area?. James Macmahon (sic) of Dysart House held a £50 freehold at Kilclohane & Rhineroe in Kilmurry Ibrickane in 1821. The lease was dated 11 Jan 1813. In 1814 Desart, Kilrush, was listed in Leets Directory as the residence of James McMahon Esq. This is puzzling as James McMahon lived at Clonmore Lodge in Kilclohane from at least the 1770s or earlier, as did his father, and he was listed there in 1807. His sons were at Clonmore Lodge from 1825 onwards. James married in 1788 a Miss Macnamara of Moher, probably an aunt of William Nugent Macnamara MP, so his connection to Kilrush wasn't through his wife.
Ennis Chronicle 17 March 1796: (Death) Near Kilrush Andrew M'Mahon Esq, formerly Surveyor of Limerick. Andrew may have been a first cousin of James. These McMahons were a branch of the McMahons of Clonina.

There is another discussion of Dysart House, which is apparently in the townland of Ballynote East, at
