Help need to identify townlands in the Barony of Islands

Post by Kevin J. O'Brien » Mon Mar 12, 2018 7:46 pm

I am trying to locate 5 townlands that reside in the Barony of Islands. This is taken from a 1751 land indenture.
• KNOPPEGS
• CAHERIA EAST
• BALLYCLOUGHUE
• BALLYACHORIG
• KNOCKNENAGH
This indenture is signed by John Purdon, William Purdon and Christopher O’Brien

Thank you.

Hi Kevin
Those names match up fairly well with townlands in Clondagad Parish, viz
KNAPPOGE -actually on the boundary in Kilchreest Parish
CAHEREA - in the Tithe Applotments split into east and west
BALLYCLOGHESSY
BALLYCORICK
That last one is not so clearcut. The nearest in the same vicinity is KNOCKALEHID

Hi Kevin,

KNOCKNENAGH might be Knockanira in the parish of Killone (adjacent to parish of Clondegad).
