1823-24 Insurrection Act commitals of Clare men

Post by smcarberry » Sun Sep 20, 2009 3:53 pm

Before the EPPI website had to take down its British Parliamentary Papers section (due to the expense), I printed out the pages which contained data on committals of Clare men pursuant to the Insurrection Act. The list was fairly short, so it is feasible to post it here. However, I know that columns cannot be spaced out here for easier reading, so just do your best to read each line as though the line has divisions for columns: name, offense, and date of committal. I am showing each line in the same order as on the original page, although that makes the dates seem out of order. The end-parenthesis mark is used in place of the original bracket running from line to line, to show a group of defendants. There is no explanation why such groupings were made. I have not shown additional columns which provide the number of days of each committal (all but two were under 30 days in length) nor the date of trial. Since every one of these men was acquitted, the time they served was all before trial.

There was no indication as to where in the county their residences were.
