Caher Feakle marriages and baptisms

Post by Sduddy » Mon Jul 31, 2017 10:08 am

Here attached is my transcription of Caher Feakle marriages 1842 – 1861: http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls0 ... 1/mode/1up

I found it impossible to distinguish between Brody and Brady, and between Curtin and Curtis.

Here attached is my transcription of Caher Feakle baptisms 1842 – 1861: http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls0 ... 1/mode/1up

The only complete pre-famine year shown in this register is 1846 – but this most valuable record is enough to show the effect of the famine on Caher: there were over 200 baptisms recorded that year – about four times the number recorded yearly during in the 1850s.
A note on the names of the townlands (residences): sometimes only the first few letters of the name are to be seen; whether this is because the priest shortened the name, or because the rest of the name is lost in the binding, I can’t say.

Again, I failed to distinguish between Brody and Brady, and a few more.

Here is my transcription of Caher Feakle baptisms 1861 – 1873: http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls0 ... 1/mode/1up

In the years 1871 - 1873, especially, the priest often gave the married name of the mother, and not her own name, but most of the births were registered, either in Tulla or Scarriff, and the mother's name can be found there: http://www.irishgenealogy.ie
