Quin and Clooney marriages and baptisms - in stages

Post by Sduddy » Thu Jun 29, 2017 10:14 am

Here attached is my transcription of Quin and Clooney baptisms 1816–1855: http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls0 ... 1/mode/1up
I found the task very difficult in places and the result is not at all satisfactory, but it will fill a gap until a more authoritative version appears. I found it impossible to distinguish between Halloran and Hallinan, for instance, so people researching either of those names should check the original entries for both, and use whatever other information they may have in order to draw their own conclusions.

I am now going ahead with the marriages and baptisms 1855-1880, and will be helped in that task if mistakes I’ve made in this one are pointed out to me.

Here is my transcription of Quin and Clooney marriages 1833-1855: http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls0 ... 1/mode/1up

The Residence column shows the address of the bride - the marriage took place in the bride’s parish (though from about 1900 forward it became fashionable to marry in Ennis, or Limerick). The grooms’ addresses (in brackets) show that they often came from other parishes in Co. Clare, and sometimes from outside Co. Clare – Kilbeacanty is in South Co. Galway, for instance.

I already did a PM to Sheila to let her know how grateful I am that she extended her donations to this parish's records.

In reviewing the records, another instance of Judith and Johanna being interchangeable became apparent - see attachment. I saw this same thing in the O'Callaghan's Mills parish records, about which I commented in an earlier posting to the Forum, later commented on by another Forum member.
