O'Hallorans/Hallorans of Roslara

Can anyone help!

I am researching Matthew Halloran/O’Halloran who lived in Ruan. I haven’t been able to determine the identity of his parents. The 1826 Tithe Applotment Books indicate that two Hallorans lived in the Rosslara Townland, James Halloran and Widow Halloran.

Matthew Halloran appears in the Griffiths Valuation.

Is it possible to compare the two surveys and, if it is, does Matthew’s land match that of James Halleran or Widow Halleran’s???

Many thanks

June

Hi June - in my experience you have to use every record to hand to work out any connections between these two Hallorans. I trawled the baptism and marriage records, once I had worked out the church parishes that aligned with the civil townland. The interconnecting families then gave me a good idea of where they rented land - remember some families rented plots some distance from each other and others over time added to their rental acreage. The Ejectment records are another important source, not to mention local histories (if you are lucky enough to be in Ireland or can get to the NLI). The librarian (Peter) at the Clare Library site was very helpful in sending me newspaper clippings of certain events I had identified, given I had no access to the local newspapers from here in Oz. If they migrated, did the shipping (or other) records give any other clues, apart from Ruan?

Good luck.

Hi June

The townland of Rosslara is in Tulla parish - not in Ruan parish.

Thanks for this - much appreciated. Our O'Hallorans eventually ended up in Ruan. Clearly, the family's 'journey' seems to have started elsewhere - Roslara. Thank you for that clarification; I will now concentrate my search on Tulla.

Regards

June

Hello June,
I have just found your enquiry re Hallorans of Roslara and was wondering if your James Halloran and his wife Kate McNamara from Tulla, had a son Patrick who emigrated to NSW Australia with his wife Mary nee Doogan/Dugan and their children Bridget b1829, Michael b1831, Catherine b1834, Margaret b1835 and Elizabeth b1839 at sea, on board the ship "Aliquis" leaving from Cork. I have also been following the Rosslara Halloran's on the Tithes but not sure whether they are my husband's family.
