Here is my transcription of the Carron baptisms 1853 -1881: http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls0 ... 1/mode/1up

Two things to note:
(1) The mother’s own surname was not recorded between the years 1853 and 1864, which is a great loss.
(2) There was a bit of a mix-up of the pages for the years 1864 to 1867. It seems to me that the priest accidentally skipped a couple of pages, began his entries, realized his mistake and went back and filled those pages; then a later priest tried to rectify this by doing some cutting and pasting, but the result was that there was a mismatch between the pages showing child’s plus parents’ names and the facing page showing the date of baptism and sponsors. I have taken the liberty of correcting this and that is why my transcriptions for each of those years are taken from two different pages.

Murf, put the parish of Carron in the register as completed, please, and put me down for New Quay (Abbey and Oughtmama). I am already well into it and hope to have it ready in a few days.

Sheila, I have added all these to the register. You will notice that I called it Carron & Kilcorny, if that's OK, seeing that it includes the civil parish of Kilcorny.
I must say that your rate of output leaves me breathless, you must be working 24/7.
Cheers, murf

Hi Murf

No, the civil parishes of Abbey and Oughtmama make up the Catholic parish of New Quay. The civil parishes of Kilcorney, Noughaval and Carron make up the Catholic parish of Carron.

I have now finished New Quay and I am ready to start on the Catholic parish of Ballyvaughan, which is made up of four civil parishes: Rathborney, Drumcreehy, Gleninagh and Killonaghan. I hope to have my transcription ready by the middle of April.

Not tired yet!

Sheila

Hi Murf

Sorry. I got confused there. You quite rightly added Kilcorney to Carron - for some reason I thought you had added it to New Quay.

I am thinking that for the sake of consistency and to avoid confusion with civil/catholic parishes, that we should stick to using the Catholic Parish name (or variant) as employed by NLI.
I will be amending the Register to reflect this.
