Here is my transcription of Rath and Kilnaboy baptisms 1862 – 1881, http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls0 ... 1/mode/1up .
Most of the information is already available by searching https://www.irishgenealogy.ie , but this transcription should prove useful also, especially the new improved “by residence” option.
I should say that I did not check any of these baptismal records against the civil records.

Sheila

Edited Nov. 11, 2017 to include columns for page number (as online) and for entry numbers. I also deleted the Residence attachment to make space for new attachments.

Well done Sheila on a HUGE task.
In the Transcriber's Register (see sticky post above) I have provided links to all these forum posts that have transcription files attached.
This may help to counteract the files gradually disappearing down the list of forum posts.
Cheers, murf

Many thanks are owed to you Sheila - what a huge job, so valuable to many of us, some who do not know it yet!

regards, Kerry

Hi Kerry and Murf
Thank you both. I’ve received so much help from this forum, I’m happy to give something back. Murf, my new project is the Doora-Kilraghtis baptisms 1821 – 1862 – you can put that in the sticky post, please.

Hi Sheila - yesterday I found The birth of a child to Catherine Hehir & Michael Hynes, which confirmed my sleuthing about Michael Hynes (transported to Tasmania in 1852, his indent showing wife as Kate and 1 child). He was convicted same date as Catherine's sister, mother and 2 cousins; Your hard work on these registers has been so useful in tracing the lives of some of the forgotten people from parish of Rath-Killinaboy.

thank you again, Kerry

Sheila, Your new project has been added to the Transcriber's Register.
I must say that your resilience in taking on another one so soon is amazing.

Hi Kerry

Can you give a sentence, or two, on the fates of Michael Hynes and family in Tasmania, please. I read ‘’The Fatal Shore” once (once is enough – it is the most depressing book ever) and never got over it. It would help to know if Michael and the others were pardoned.

Hi Sheila - yes that book is very depressing, but there are other books which throw more light on the wider range of convicts who survived to live ordinary, and sometimes successful lives. The Michael Hynes convicted along with his Hehir relatives, would appear to have married Catherine Hehir in about 1845, with the baptism of their child Bridget in 1846. He was convicted in 1849, must have spent quite some time either in gaol or on a hulk, as he didn't arrive in VDL until 1852. His indent shows wife is Kate, 1 child; siblings as Martin, John (transported 2 yrs ago), Paddy, Terence, James; sisters Mary & Nancy. His parents may have been Patrick and ?Bridget. Catherine (Kate) was sponsored to migrate to Tasmania in 1864 (ships log has Catherine Hynes, with a note saying wife of Michael, now in Ireland). Most convicts who behaved themselves were granted conditional pardons, meaning they could settle anywhere in Australia, but not return to the country convicted from. Catherine married in 1865, claiming to be a widow. There is a death of a Michael Hines in Hobart in 1863, native of Clare, but no other details of him, so unsure of his true whereabouts. His brother, Patrick Hynes was sentenced in 1849 and arrived in VDL in 1853. He married and had many children.

cheers, Kerry

Thank you, Kerry. It's good to hear that they got conditional pardons.
