A truly sublime gift

This story comes from Hell's Kitchen, a Manhattan (NYC) neighborhood. It is known by family historians anywhere, the dilemma of the last to die in a family. In this "New York moment," a cross-ethnic gift was made that took considerable effort and reminds us that something precious needs no fancy wrapping:

Thanks for posting this, Sharon. Thought-provoking in a number of respects ("Leave notes behind - someone might read them"; "Never give up"; "Go to the top for a decision"; "Think you'll be forgotten ? Don't be too sure"; "Wall things up so that they will be found many years later"; etc. etc.). And very poignant, too, of course.
