Hi Moytura
You seem to have done a lot of work already.
I looked at “1903 – 1934 Index to Biographical Notices in the Clare Champion newspaper” and “ 1935 – 1985 Index to Biographical Notices in the Clare Champion newspaper” on
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... nealog.htm
I saw that a notice of the death of Mrs. Patrick McInerney, Clenagh, was published in the Clare Champion of 21st May 1910. Her death does not seem to have been registered by the family, however, which is pity, as this record would have given her age at death. The site for the General Registration office is
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/. We see in the 1901 census (
http://census.nationalarchives.ie ) that she was aged 68, but people did not always give their true ages in the censuses. If she was really only 68 she would have been born about 1830, and it is doubtful that she would have married in 1847. I am wondering if she was married at a later date. I did not find her marriage in the Newmarket-on-Fergus (
http://registers.nli.ie) parish register - I think this must be the register for the parish of Kilmaleery where the townland of Clenagh is situated - so I looked at baptisms, starting at 1847. I found none until 1857, but maybe I did not look carefully enough.
Here are the baptisms I found:
26th Aug. 1857: Levina(?) of Patt and Ellen McInerney; sponsor: Bridget Gorman.
2nd Aug. 1860: James of Patrick McInerney and Ellen Bourke; sponsors: Patrick McInerney and Cecily McInerney.
5th Jan. 1862: James of Patrick McInerney and Ellen Burke; sponsor: Bridget Houlihan (the first James must have died in infancy).
31st Mar. 1863: Ellen of Paddy McInertney and Ellen Bourke; sponsors: Patt McInertney and Celia McInertney.
8th Aug. 1864: Bridget of Patrick Macinertney and Ellen Burke; sponsors: Pat Macinertney and Cecelia Macinertney.
The baptism register only goes to 1866, so I did a search at
https://familysearch.org/search. I entered “McInerney” as the Last Name and 1864 -1874 in “Birth Year Range” (State registration of births did not begin until 1864). I entered the parents names (in “search for a relationship”) and I clicked “Type” and then “Birth” and finally I entered "Ireland" under “Country”. This gave me two further births to Patrick and Ellen:
17th Dec. 1869: Daniel McInerney; parents: Patrick McInerney, Ellen Bourke.
28th May 1868: Anne McInertney; parents: Patrick McInertney, Ellen Bourke.
Going back to the notices in the Clare Champion – this time to the later batch – I saw that an obit for James McInerney, Clenagh, was pubished on 26th May 1951. This gave me a lead to the registration of his death, which gives his age at death as 89. I find that ages at death are much nearer the mark than ages given in the censuses – in the 1901 census, James gives his age as 28.
Here is the substance of the death record: 16th May 1951: James McInerney, Clenagh, aged 89, married; informant: Patrick McCormack, son-in-law, Newmarket-on-Fergus.
James had married in 1908. The record of the marriage gives this information: James McInerney, Farmer, Newmarket-on-Fergus, son of Patrick McInerney, Farmer (deceased) married Mary Casey, Ballyee, daughter of Thomas Casey, Farmer, in Ballyee church, on 25th Feb. 1908; witnesses: Patrick Casey, Eddie Carroll, Caroline Casey.
The Clare Champion published an obit for Mrs. Mary McInerney, Clenagh, on 13th Mar. 1954. Again this helped me find the record of her death: Mary McInerney, Clenagh, widow, aged 74, Cecelia McCormack, daughter, Newmarket-on-Fergus.
The Clare Champion published a notice of the death of Sr. Mary Pauline McInerney, Clenagh, on 31st Aug. 1935. Pauline is a name in religion and not a first name. But she must be another daughter of James McInerney and Mary Casey.
The 1911 census shows two daughters born to James and Mary, but they went on to have more children. The birth records on the irishgenealogy.ie site go to 1916, only, but by that date James and Mary had four more children: Bridget Cecelia in 1911, Caroline Mary in 1912, and Patrick Joseph in 1913 and Martin in 1914.
It’s very possible that you know all of this already, and you may have been looking for the parents of James McInerney and the parents of Ellen Bourke. But what I have given may be of some help. The clarelibrary site (
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... nealog.htm) is a mine of information and you should look in the section on Research Support, which gives each parish (“Civil Parish index”), including Kilmaleery, and lots of information for each one. I can see from what’s given for Kilmaleery that the McInerneys were there from medieval times.
