New Resources at the National Archives

Post by murf » Thu Dec 08, 2016 1:57 am

I haven't seen any mention of this on the forum, so there may be others out there who, like me are a bit slow on the uptake and haven't noticed that on 15 Sep 2016 the NAI released six new resources on their genealogy website at http://www.genealogy.nationalarchives.ie/
This should not be confused with the other genealogy page at http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealog ... genealogy/

The six new resources are:
Prerogative and diocesan copies of some wills and indexes to others, 1596 – 1858
Diocesan and Prerogative Marriage Licence Bonds Indexes, 1623 – 1866
Catholic qualification & convert rolls, 1700 – 1845
Valuation Office house, field, tenure and quarto books 1824 – 1856
Shipping agreements and crew lists, 1863 – 1921
Will Registers 1858 – 1900

I managed to pick up some very useful snippets from Valuation Office tenure books, additional to that available in the corresponding cancelled land books.

This is the easy, convenient way to never get behind in news on gen. resources as they become available:

That's Claire Santry's blog where her announcements are a model of clarity and relevance, now also made into a book as shown on the blog. She manages to keep her ear to the ground and root out all that is actually accessible on the Internet or about to happen. There are one to five such announcements on an almost daily basis. I can only guess that she has the capacity for such output, in addition to her other professional activities, because she is both a journalist and a family historian.

I only learned of this blog within the past year, and I suspect that most people come to it by word of mouth.

Happy Christmas,
Sharon Carberry

Thanks for that reminder Sharon
It's been a while since I visited the Claire Santry site, being engrossed in other things. Seems I have some catching up to do.
I've promoted the site to the top of my bookmarks, and so should be up to speed in future.
Happy Christmas to you and all.
