My impression with the Irish naming pattern is that some families followed it closely, some followed it loosely, and some paid no regards whatever to it.
Even with those that followed the naming pattern, where for instance both grandfathers had the same first name (and this was common enough) there had to be a divergence from the pattern.
So the traditional naming pattern can be a useful research tool, so long as we are aware of its limitations.

I would like very much to find distant cousins. It has seemed like an impossible task....but maybe not.
It seems odd to me that Bridget Cleary is easier to trace than her husband Thomas Landers.
Landers does not seem like a common name.
Thanks for the added information.

of her father John
Who died 14th June 1899
Her mother Mary
who died 1st Feb 1900
and of her brother James

Erected by her children

Re: Looking for Information - Thomas Landers & Bridget Clear
I am looking at landers, launders, landy and lander. Thanks Mary
If following Irish tradition my gif's father's name would be Stephen and his mother's name Catherine and my ggm's mother's name would be Mary and her father's name was James.
I was only aware of 6 children but it is listed on the census as being 7 children born to them but only 6 living.
Did folks move about much during the early to mid 1800s? It seems very possible but I don't know if that was common.
