I am looking through the British Newspaper Archives which are free to search via the National Library of Australia for any Australian's who hold a NLA Library card and came across this, which may be of interest to you.

Dear Bob: This piece is of interest to me as I gather data on life in 19th century Meelick. It was surely written by James Mac Carthy, editor and owner of the Limerick and Clare Examiner. Soon afterwards he emigrated to the USA and worked on a newspaper in New Orleans. He died there. The area of Meelick in question is Woodcock Hill, the worst hit already by the Famine depopulation. It was the place of numerous evictions in earlier years.

Bob,
Thanks for posting. My gg-grandmother was Mary Cherry (1839-1919) from Woodcockhill. She was the daughter of Patrick Cherry and Ann Cusack.
