It is interesting to see how obituaries can vary with respect to such basic details as the place of death! In London, an obituary in The Times (Monday, Dec 28, 1914; pg. 9; Issue 40736; col C) entitled 'Death Of General Kelly-Kenny. South African War Services' says:
'We regret to announce the death of General Sir Thomas Kelly-Kenny, which took place on Saturday morning at Hove.' The New York Times version says that he 'died yesterday at his home at Doolough Lodge, County Clare, Ireland.'

The online indexes at http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl reveal that the London obituary was correct and the New York one incorrect:

Deaths Dec 1914 (>99%)
Kelly-Kenny Thomas 74 Steyning 2b 361

(Hove, near Brighton, was part of the Steyning registration district until 1935.)

Of course Sharon may not have posted this valuable link in a Clare forum if it gave the correct place of death!

Paddy W.,

With your in-depth background on the Kellys and better sources, I have to agree that the venerable NY Times was flat out
wrong on this one. Ouch, it's painful to hear of such a basic error, but maybe someone with Irish ties in the NY Times office
had an agenda to further with emphasizing the decedent's Clare connection. There is a story there but one which we will
likely never know in full, just that your curiosity rooted it out. Thanks for speaking up.

Sharon C.
