Edmund Reilly, blacksmith, of Caher killed in fight (1866)

Post by Paddy Casey » Sun Jan 03, 2016 8:30 pm

RESULT OF A FACTION FIGHT. At the fair of Tubber, on Friday last, a faction fight occurred between the Reillys and a family named Keane, which resulted in the death of Edmund Reilly, a blacksmith, residing at a place called Caher, in the county Clare. Both families have been for some time past on very bad terms, in consequence of legal dispute arising out of a passage leading to a well in the neighbourhood. Each party having met on Friday last at the above fair came into collision with each other, when, sad to relate, Edmund Reilly received a blow of a stone, which killed him. Since the occurrence the Keanes have not returned to their homes, and the Constabulary are in pursuit of them. (Tipperary Vindicator - Tuesday 17 July 1866).
