Bounty Immigrants to NSW 1841/Adam Lodge/Julia Sammon and others.
Patrick Sammon and Bridget Curtis to USA

My great grandmother Julia Salmon/Sammon, aged 21 arrived in Sydney NSW as a bounty immigrant on the Adam Lodge on 30 August 1841. Shipping records say that she was under the protection of William Crotty and his wife. These records spell her name as Julia Salmon. Julia’s father and mother was said to be Patrick and Anne Salmon. She was an illiterate farm servant. The immigrants were brought to NSW by Gilchrist and Alexander as per an agreement with the NSW Government. Other immigrants on the ship from County Clare included:
Hannah McKeough 20,
Mary McKeough 21,
Margaret Clancey 22,
Bridget Crotty 16,
James Hanna 26,
Mary Hanna 24,
Maria Hanna 5,
William Crotty 28,
Mary Crotty 28,
Michael Crotty 7,
James Crotty 5,
Denis Crotty 2, and
Catherine Crotty 11.

Julia married the convict John Champley on 17 September 1842 at St John’s Catholic Church Campbelltown NSW. At the time of her marriage her name was given as Julia Sammon.

Although other records in NSW suggest that Julia’s name was Julia Salmon it seems that the spelling of her name in County Clare was Sammon.

Another researcher suggests that Julia Sammon had a brother Patrick and sisters Bridget and Anne. This information is still to be verified.

Patrick Sammon was born about 1809 in County Clare when his father also Patrick was 39 and his mother Annie was also 39. It would appear that Patrick married Bridget Curtis and they went to the USA. Bridget had been born in 1810 in Clare, Ireland, the child of Patrick and Ann. She lived in Westfield, Massachusetts in 1870. Bridget passed away in July 1885 in Hampden County, Massachusetts.

Bridget Sammon was born in County Clare about 1815 and died in September 1898 in Scarriff, County Clare.

Anne Sammon was born about 1821, in Clare, Ireland. She died in June 1901 in Scarriff County Clare.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who can add anything to this information.

Peter
