Finding people - the hidden power of An Post

Post by Paddy Casey » Sun Jul 19, 2015 9:20 am

Around 5 years ago in the thread http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtop ... f=1&t=4070 there were some mentions of the ability of local Post Office workers to find people using their local knowledge.

Well, take a look at this: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/j ... in-ireland

They won't be able find your long-deceased great-great-grandfather (or his grave) but they may know where his living descendants are.

Paddy,
a few years ago a postcard addressed to

Uncle Bert's,
Ennistymon,
County Clare,
Ireland

was duly delivered to its proper recipient, i.e.

Stefan Unglert,
Unglert's Bakery,
Ennistymon

The "knowledge" local postmen have is like that required of taxi drivers in London. They really do know everyone. If we could only gather all the postmen in Ireland in one big hall...

Mike
