Hello all - I have tried unsuccessfully to get to an online version of the phone book for Ireland. I have googled appropriate terms, but each time the page to what appears to be the official site will not open. I have tried a link posted at this forum a while ago, and it will not open. Is anyone able to provide some advice on how I can search the phone book online from Oz?
kind regards, Kerry

Re: Irish phone book online search- help
Hi Kerry.
This is eircom's online phone book http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/
Be aware that it defaults to a business search, so you'll need to click on the Residential tab to get home phone numbers.
Golden Pages is another business directory - http://www.goldenpages.ie/

Re: Irish phone book online search- help
Thank you Mcreed for posting the link. It is the one I have been trying to open. I'm getting the same response with your link, and appears I have an error (HTTP 403) with my browser, which I cannot resolve. It would be really helpful if someone on the forum would kindly let know if there are any Hehir/O'Hehir and/or Kierce/Kierse families still living in/near Corrofin and just let me know how many, so I can pursue some other way.
regards, Kerry

As for not being able to access http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/ with your browser. It's always a good idea to check websites like http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/ to see if a website is really 'down' for all and not just for you. That site gives some good advice on how to gain access to a site if it is 'up' for all but not available to you, i.e.
"If the site is UP but you can’t access the page, try one of the below solutions:
Browser Related Problems
Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)
Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page.
Fix DNS Problems
A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.
Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter).
If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services."
