Book: Clarecastle and its Environs

Post by Paddy Casey » Sat Jul 28, 2007 3:16 pm

Local history books such as parish histories can be invaluable. I have the parish history books of Kilkeedy, Crusheen and Beagh (Co.Galway) on my shelf. I often use them for reference and am amazed that each time I dip in I find something new. They are accordingly very well thumbed.

For those that are interested in Clarecastle, here is the good news: there is a book called "A History of Clare Castle and Its Environs: A History of Clare Castle", by Dr Joseph Power of Ennis (published 2004, 648 pages, ISBN 0954877500) which, as it is written by a historian and as it starts from the year dot, could be worth a read. The bad news: it is out of print. I understand that Sean Spellissey in Gort (Crowe Street, Gort, Co.Galway, Ireland, tel. +353 (91) 632835) has one copy. Of course, you might find it in a library.

Paddy

P.S. Disclaimer: I have no financial relationship with Sean Spellissey nor would I benefit from any of his sales of books.
