Hello again, just like to revisit Jane Portill again with fresh approach.

Jane would have been born around 1840 not 1832 as i stated, she was 20 years old when she married
in 1860 to Michael Murphy.

The marriages may now be suspect for her siblings, and i now have to accept more Portill around even in England
possibly.

So facts are: Jane Pertill married Michael Murphy 1860, Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire, witnesses. Francis O'Grady & Susan Griffin.

1861 census for Stammergate Ripon Michael & Jane have with them
P. Porton 25 Lodger

Thomas Porton 15 traveller

Mary Porton widow 50
All born Ireland { Possibly Clare }

1911 census
14 Ranson Terrace, Haswell moor, Easington
Jane Murphy 79 born Ireland. Ireland.
Mary Cameron daughter 39 born Leasington
Joseph Cameron grandson 7 born Haswell
Thomas Portal 50 single masons labourer Ireland

I still beleive the Porton's staying with Michael & Jane are her family,
Would it be possible going on Jane and her brother Thomas's age to match with
any Simon & Mary Purtill in Clare.
Thanks for time reading this, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Derek Casey
ps. two of the Murphy sister's Mary & Jane Ann married two Cameron brother's here in the
north east, Co Durham.

Hi all, i recently sent away for the marriage certificate of Bridget Purtle & James Coyle,
i was hoping Bridget's father would be Simon Portill, this would then make my maternal gt gt grandmother
Jane Portill and Bridget sisters.

Bridget & James Coyle married 28th August 1857, St Patrick's chapel, Leeds.
Bridget's father named as Samuel Purtle, labourer { no place of birth mentioned }
Has any one came across a Samuel Purtle at all,
one friend who helps me has suggested Samuel maybe an anglicised version of Simon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All the best.
Derek

Witnesses to Bridget & James's marriage were X Mary McMahon & James Falnegan,

please can any one find a Samuel Purtle living in Clare around 1857,
i cant prove that Samuel Purtle is just an anglicised version of Simon Portill,
i would like to see if i can order a death certificate of Simon Portill a farmer,
he is named on the marriage certificate of his daughter Jane Portill,
1860 Simon Portill a farmer is deceased, i'm surmising he died in Clare,
where would i apply for a death certificate for Simon Portill.
Any help appreciated.

Civil Registration of Births, Deaths & Marriages didn't come into being until 1864 in Ireland so you will not be able to get a death certificate for someone who died prior to 1864. Here is a link to Shanakyle Graveyard Kilrush.

pj. culligan, thanks for reply, iv'e e-mailed Shanakyle graveyard Kilrush in the hope they can help
on my search for Simon Portill and his family.
It seem's like the mountain to climb to find my Portill's just gets bigger & bigger,
i will keep plodding on in the hope a Portill or Murphy decendent pops up to help.
All the best.

Derek.

Hi folks,
Trying to see if families connect here?
my maternal 2x great grandmother was Jane Portill, she married Michael Murphy 1860, Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire,
one of the witnesses was a: Susan Griffin { will mention her again }
Jane's father on marriage certificate shown as Simon, farmer, deceased.

Bridget Purtle married James Coyle, 1857.
Bridget's father shown as Samuel, a labourer, witnesses were: James Curtain & Bridget Haley.

Mary Purtill married John Hague, 1860 Ripon, Yorkshire.
Mary's father shown as John Purtill, farmer, deceased.
One of the witnesses was a: Bridget Haley { will mention her again }

In 1861 Stammergate, Ripon, Yorkshire.
Bridget Haley.. 13 1848. Female/Daughter Ireland. Scholar. { witness to Mary Purtill & John Hague marriage }
Catherine Haley. 9 1852. Female/Daughter Ireland. Scholar.
Edmund Haley. 7 1857. Male/Son Ripon, Yorkshire. Scholar.
Thomas Haley. 4 1857. Male/Son Ripon, Yorkshire. Scholar.
Susan Griffin. 24 1837. Female/Lodger Ireland. Traveller. { witness to Jane Portill & Michael Murphy marriage }

In 1851at 4 High Mill Square, Bishopthornton, Ripon.
Catherine Purtle 1833. Female/Lodger Ireland, Carder of Yarn,
several other young Irish girls all lodging with a:Margaret Fraley. Female/Head, Hawker's wife who keeps lodgers.
There are no Haley's in Ripon before 1851, by 1860 several Haley's found and most from Co Clare.

Mary Purtill who married John Hague had thier first child in Middlesbrough 1864,
then had two more children in Leasingthorne, Co Durham { coal mining }
Jane Portill who married Michael Murphy had thier first child 1862 in Middlesbrough, Co Durham,
then next 3 children in Leasingthorne, Co Durham { coal miner }

I'm sure these Portill girl's are related, if not sisters then cousins, but is it possible the Haley family have
a Portill connection..
Any help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
Derek
