before that. Could anyone provide me with directions? Hoping to write a book on this pub which has been in my family for about four generations.

Thanks

Allison, you could start by checking out the trades directories on the Clare Library site at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... nealog.htm. Look for Vintners in Guy's Directory, 1893, Grocers and Spirit Dealers in Bassett's Directory, 1880-1, Grocers and Spirit Dealers in Slater's Directory, 1846 and so on. Regards, Mike

I don't know if I've missed something here, Allison, but unless I'm mistaken you didn't mention the name and location of the pub you are writing a book about. If you could post that information it might jog some memories.

Hi it's in the Pateen area, Larkins to be precise......exploring the possibility of a book...can't find it in the directories mentioned....the Court Records perhaps?

Allison,

I don't know of a place called Pateen in Co.Clare or in Ireland, for that matter. Could you possibly have meant Parteen, a place a few miles north of Limerick ? A mile or so southeast of Parteen there is a place called Larkins Cross. Was that the place you are thinking of ?

What was the name of the pub ? Or don't you know ?

The more information you can provide, the better the chance that someone here will be able to help you.

Paddy

P.S. By the way, if you search the Clare County Library site at http://www.clarelibrary.ie for Larkin and Parteen you will come across an entry in the Index to Biographical Notices relating to Larkin, John, of Larkins Cross, Shanakyle, Parteen (15 Jun 1973, Death) at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... pionl1.htm . That will take you to his death notice which may provide information relating to your quest.
