Graveyards in Kilmurry Ibrickan parish

Post by pwaldron » Sun Feb 23, 2014 3:57 pm

I have been trying to work out where to find transcriptions for four different similarly-named and multiply-named graveyards all located close together between the villages of Mullagh and Quilty in Kilmurry Ibrickan(e) civil parish in west Clare:

1. one in Shandrum townland called Kilmurry at
http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,501931,673281,7,7
and also called Kilmurry Graveyard at
http://www.kibparish.ie/map/
with transcriptions at
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... ptions.htm
and
http://www.interment.net/data/ireland/c ... /index.htm

Liz Haren has confirmed to me that this was the one from which she posted photographs and inscriptions under the title "Mullagh-Quilty Graveyard" which are available at
http://web.archive.org/web/200802291000 ... eyard.html
but seem to have disappeared from the live web where they should have migrated to igp-web.com.

2. one in Finnor More townland adjoining St. Mary's Church at
http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,504640,673122,7,3
and called Mullagh Graveyard at
http://www.kibparish.ie/map/
but from which I can find no online transcriptions.

3. another in Finnor More townland called Kylebreedia at
http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,504226,672717,7,7
and called Kilbridget Graveyard at
http://www.kibparish.ie/map/
with transcriptions at
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... ptions.htm

4. one in Quilty West townland adjoining what Ordnance Survey Ireland calls "St. Michael's Church" but is really Our Lady Star of the Sea Church at
http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,501584,674804,7,3
but called Quilty Graveyard at
http://www.kibparish.ie/map/
with transcriptions (describing it as Seafield Graveyard) at
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... ptions.htm
The oldest inscription here dates only to 1965.

As (a) there are numerous graveyards in Kilmurry parish, (b) Kilmurry Catholic parish and Kilmurry civil parish have different boundaries, (c) there are two other Kilmurry parishes elsewhere in the county but (d) there is only one Shandrum in Clare, I think it would probably be less ambiguous to always refer to no.1 above as "Kilmurry Graveyard in Shandrum townland" and use similar precise and unambiguous descriptions for the others!

I suspect that Mullagh Graveyard in Finnor More (no.2) may be of a similar vintage (c.1960s) to Quilty Graveyard in Quilty West (no.4).

Can anyone direct me to online transcriptions of Mullagh Graveyard in Finnor More (no.2) to complete the set?

Paddy
There is a graveyard called Kilmurry in Kilmurry parish.
the graveyard you call Kilmurry is locally called Kilmurry Ibrickan and is not by any stretch of the imagination between mullagh and quilty its under a railway bridge off coast road from Miltown towards Doonbeg past the turn off for Quilty. There are transcriptions on Clare library website but John Daly is the expert and will correct them call him. I have never heard it called Mullagh Quilty graveyard. It is the oldest graveyard in the area with a road through it.
The graveyard at Mullagh village attached to the church is commonly called Mullagh graveyard and is relatively new. I dont know where you would get transcriptions. I appreciate the legal designation might be Finnor more but if you were driving I would say head for Mullagh village and get off a the square.

Up to 1900s Mullagh people were buried in Kylebreedia eg Matthew Butler Kellys first wife Isabella is buried there. The transcriptions for there is online.
There are other graveyards in the parish including knocknahilamore, killernan and Coore (also modern)

Paddy,

I have been working on the Kilmurry-Ibrickane Graveyards on Find a Grave. I have added the townland address and the map that shows the exact location for most of the graveyards.

Kilmurry-Ibrickane Graveyard on Find a Grave is listed as Shandrum Townland, Mullagh, County Clare, Ireland. There is a map on the site for the exact location.
I have added some grave stones to this site.

Kylebreedia Graveyard (Killbridget) on Find a Grave is listed as Finnor More Townland, Mullagh, County Clare, Ireland. There is a map on this location.
I have added some gravestones to this site.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cg ... id=2499601

St. Mary’s Churchyard Graveyard on Find a Grave is Mullagh, County Clare, Ireland.
I have entered a few names but last summer on holidays I photographed every gravestone. I you want me to look up a stone for you drop me an email.
There is not a map attached to this graveyard.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cg ... id=2459648

Killernan Graveyard, on Find a Grave is listed as Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland.
I have entered most of the graves and photos on this site.
There is a map at this location.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cg ... id=2459487

Coore Graveyard, on Find a Grave is listed as Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. I have just requested to have the location changes to Coore West Townland, Mullagh, County Clare, Ireland.
I have photographed most of this graveyard and will add more pictures to the site.

I could not find the Quilty or Seafield Graveyard on Find a Grave.

The Google Maps plug-in at
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cg ... id=2499991
doesn't help - it has Miltown Malbay roughly in the middle of Shandrum townland, several miles from where it should be!!

The postal address for Coore is Coore Ennis Co Clare. That is probably why you are getting this on findagrave. Coore church is technically in Coore village but the village is kind of spread out
My father grandfather and grandmother are buried there Paddy if any help to you - you know who they are. So is Dan Sexton of Doonogan Castle and my aunt Mary Frances McCarthy and her husband and his grandfather (Michael McCarthy)
