Moveen Kane family to Chicago

Post by smcarberry » Thu Feb 13, 2014 7:54 pm

In connection with research on a Kilrush-area family (not my own) who relocated to Ohio, with a few relatives going to Chicago, I reviewed marriages of the mid-1800s transcribed by Paddy Waldron for that part of Clare. I am not surprised to find a match in Chicago for the sons of one such couple, but the death record of a descendant states that Cork is their origin. I think this is the usual unreliability of a death record for which a U.S. family member is the source, but any comments about that from fellow family historians are welcome.

BTW there are numerous SW Clare men who moved to Chicago and undertook law enforcement as a career. I'll check the Forum archives and will post those, if not already done.

Sharon, it is Murray Ginnane and not I who should be credited with the fantastic achievement of transcribing the parish registers from Carrigaholt from which you quote!
