New Ireland (Carrolton) NY, a hub for Clare emigrants

I finally got around to follow-up on a note made a while ago, that Clare-born were known to have been a large part of the
population of New Ireland in western New York state, a place that I had never heard of (I grew up in upstate NY). The
first Googling brought up a great website developed by school students as a research exercise:
http://home.comcast.net/~dickallen5/nyc ... Index.html

There are several pages to enjoy, including cemetery photos with Simon McCarty's stone declaring his Clare homeplace.
There is Clare-based Fr. John Sheehan's Latin-worded recommendation of an immigrant, and the Clare County Library website is linked. There is separate treatment for each of these families:
Carmody
Cory/Carey
Fall [often spelled Faul/Fawl in Clare]
Hogan
Kadien/Caton/Keating
Kane/Keane
Keough
McCarty/McCarthy
Murphy
O'Loughlin
Parkhill
Rochford
Spellacy/Spellisy
Townsell/Townsend [shown in the GV for Clare]
Watters

Nearby, also in central NYS, a West Clare Carberry family re-settled in this time period. I think they may well be related to my East Clare line, possibly descendants of the Thomas who deserted his Limerick military unit in 1803, so perhaps he fled to the most remote district of Clare. Unfortunately the descendants are not online and not accessible.

Have fun with that,
Sharon Carberry
