Fodry Loophead Signal Tower Landowners 1802 to 1816

Post by treatycity » Wed Jan 29, 2014 8:52 pm

While researching my maternal ancestors in Fodry Loophead Co Clare I came across some documents listing 6 landowners in Loophead involved in the building of the Naval signal tower on Cahereroghaun Hill in Fodry during 1802-1804.
See "The sixth report of the commissioners for auditing public accounts in Ireland" dated April 3 1818 pages 125 to 127 inc.
This is available on http://eppi.dippam.ac.uk/pdf1/5783.pdf
The six people mentioned in the commissioners report June 16 1813 to July 22 1816 are
John Keating
Edmund Fennell
Martin Carmody
Martin Gibson
Thomas Keating
Thomas Crotty = my maternal ancestor
The Kilrush Sept 27 1804 County Clare Notes by Senan Scanlan mentions the Fodry signal tower was completed by 1804.
I find it very satisfactory to have some offical documents mentioning my ancestors in this time period.
The eppi report also mentions other signal towers in Co Clare etc but not with the same detail.
Patrick
