Pender in Kildysart

Post by lisadough » Thu Jan 02, 2014 2:24 pm

My ancestor Patrick Pender (later PENDERS) was born about 1844, likely in Kildysart. Despite some extensive searching, no baptism record has ever been found for him. However, several individuals with whom he is closely associated have baptism records from Kildysart- John Pender, born in 1833, Thomas Pender, born in 1837, and James Pender, born in 1845. All were the children of John Pender and Mary or Margaret Pender (maiden name same as married name) In addition, there were 2 other "brothers" associated with this group- Michael Pender, born in 1827, and Henry Pender, born in 1832. 5 of the 6 "brothers" settled for at least a time in the Rutland, Vermont area. The sixth brother, James, lived in Pennsylvania and Ohio and is mentioned in one his brother's obituaries. All the brothers, with the exception of James, eventually spelled the surname with an "s" on the end as PENDERS, but also used the variations PENDER, PENDERGAST, PRENDERGAST, PINDER, etc.

The townlands they lived in at the time of their births were Ailroe, Erribul, and Coolmeen. I am planning to visit the area this April and would love to connect with any family member or anyone else researching this family. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!

Hi - and Happy New Year. !! Killadysert is the REGISTRATION DISTRICT - - the areas you mention are in the next parish - KILFIDDANE - to see lots of info - go to www.clarelibrary.ie - Genealogy - RESEARCH SUPPORT - and then CIVIL PARISH INDEX - click on the map - Kilfiddane is Parish No. 62 - 'Townlands in the Parish' will show you all the areas. When you click on each area - you can see a map of 1842 -
I saw the name 'PINDER' on some docs. - Griffith Valuations of 1855. Church records did not start until 1868.
Hope you find some info. Miriam.
