New England death notices of Clare-born

Except for the Worcester MA residents, which are posted separately due to an earlier posting on that city alone, and two New Haven (Conn.) residents also posted elsewhere, here are death notices for Clare-born residing in the New England region of the U.S., with today's group being in Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine.

22 Feb 1903 Fortworth Star-Telegram (TX) p. 3 Bath, Me., Feb 21 – Mrs. Helen C. NEAGLE... aged 106...born in CCI and has lived here eighty years.

5 Nov 1906 St. Albans Daily Messenger (VT) p. 7 Miss Mary COLEMAN died at the home of her
nephew, Thomas Coleman, of Rugg street, yesterday...of old age. The funeral...at St. Mary's church...
Miss Coleman was born in CCI 87 years ago. She had been an invalid for ten years.

30 Nov 1904 Argus and Patriot (VT) p. 2 John COSTELLO, of Rank street, died Saturday...of heart failure and general debility...was 65 years of age, a native of CCI, and had been a resident of this city 41 years...Survived by a wife, two daughters Miss Agnes Peck of Fitchburg, Mass., and one brother, Owen Costello in the city.

18 Mar 1907 St. Albans Daily Messenger (VT) p. 2 Martin O'CONNOR was found dead at this home on Ferry St. Sunday. The funeral will be held at the Church of the Nativity...and burial will [be]... in the Catholic cemetery...It is thought that he died of acute indigestion. Mr. O'Connor was born in CCI in 1847 and came to this country when he was 16 years old. He soon began to work for the Central Vermont railroad and had continued in railroad service all his life...He came to this town about thirty-five years ago...and had charge of the section north from the depot at the time of his death. He is survived by one son, John O'Connor, station agent at the East Swanton station, and four daughters.

29 Jan 1908 Argus and Patriot (VT) SEXTON Mrs. Hannah, wife of the late Stephen Burgen, and mother of the late Alderman J.J. Burgen, died Monday at her home on North Franklin street, after a few days' illness...Hannah Sexton was born 71 years ago in CCI. She was a daughter of James and Jennie Sexton. In 1855 she came to American and for nearly 58 years lived in Montpelier. Shortly after coming to this country she was married...Seven children were born, two of whom are living, Stephen Jr. and Patrick, both of this city. The deceased was a member of St. Augustine's church...

A young man named Michael MURTAGH, about 26 years of age, was instantly killed, and in the most distressing manner, on Saturday morning last near the bridge on the Central Railroad, which crosses the Winooski near Mr. Pomeroy's farm, by the accidental dumping of one of a train of gravel cars, on which he was employed as brakeman...[T]he fastenings of the car became displaced..and he was thrown upon the track and eleven loaded gravel cars passed over him...Young Murtagh was a native of CCI...Burlington Press [VT], 19th

30 Jul 1898 Pawtucket Times (RI) p. 6 Boston, July 30 – Word was received early this morn of the death of Maj. Patrick J. GRADY of the 9th regt. at Santiago De Cuba...died from natural causes...was born in CCI March 6, 1817...entered the Massachusetts volunteer militia April 5, 1877, as second lieutenant of Co. H, 9th infantry...promoted captain March 7, 1879, and major April, 1881...survived by a widow and children...

26 May 1871 Springfield Republican [Springfield MA] p. 8 Died
In this city, 10th, of heart disease, Mary Ann, wife of Edward T. HYNES, of Enis, CCI.

19 Jun 1823 Essex Register (MA) p. 3
In the CCI, Mr. Edward BYRNE, aged 100 – his wife survives him in her 105th year. They had been married nearly 80 years.

24 Apr 1883 Boston Journal p. 4 Rev. Hugh CARMODY, D D, pastor of St. Mary's Church, New Britain, Conn., died yesterday of pneumonia. He was a native of Inness, CCI,and was educated at Rome. His pastorates have been at Thompsonville, New Haven, and New Britain, Conn., and Providence, R.I. He was one of the oldest priests in New England and a very scholarly man.

9 Feb 1850 Daily Atlas (MA)
We learn from a Gardiner Advertiser [MA] extra, dated the 5th inst. [instant, meaning “this month”] that James CAHILL was killed in that city that evening by giving way of a bank which buried him underneath it. He was born in the Parish of Killard, CCI, and leaves...a...wife and one child.
