Cathy,

A search in the Clare Library site at http://www.clarelibrary.ie will show you lots of information on Coles and Kellys. In particular, since you are trying to find recent traces of Coles and Kellys you might like to browse the Index to Biographical Notices in the Clare Champion newspaper 1935-1985 at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... ampion.htm (see, for example, the three Coles at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... pionc5.htm ).

There are/were zillions of Kellys in Clare, so that's a rather large haystack to search in. However, the name Cole is much less common in the County, so I suggest you first concentrate your efforts there.

A George Cole, almost certainly one of yours, is listed in the Ennis National School Registers 1898-1952 registers at
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... rname1.htm. Also, your Cole family is listed in the 1901 census of Clare as living in Turnpike Road in Ennis (see
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... d30_17.htm ). So that gives you an address. Now, Turnpike Road, also spelled Turnpick Road lies just south of Ennis and roughly halfway between the centre of Ennis and Clarecastle.

So, looking for present day Coles in the vicinity of Turnpike Road, let's check out the Eircom phone book. Bingo ! The Eircom phone book at http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/search/clare/cole.html lists just one Cole in its Residential section (and no Coles in the Business section): Cole, C, 14 Qy Rd Clarecastle Ennis Co. Clare, (065)6893088 (that will be "Quay Road").

You know what I'd do ? I'd phone that C Cole and see whether your are related. That's what I'd do.

Paddy
